So so far, effect of baseball's postseason's extended duration has been minimal.

Even  with the current playoff structure the amount of teams that fall within  striking distance isn't much different than the norm.

Since adding an additional wild card every league hasn't actually reduced the standard for making the playoffs.

Perhaps it's because the addition of a third wild card in each league can be effective.
